The Beginning:

It all began in Rock Hall, a small fishing village on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. After escaping a hectic professional life in the D.C. area, Joanne and Bill moved to this remote town, bought a tiny cottage, and harvested crabs from Bill’s boat, The J.T. Leonard.  While not a tremendous financial success, 4 years of this “hippie” life style, fishing and traveling around the Bay from the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal to Smith Island VA, was an amazing experience that deepened our love for each other and enriched our lives.

One day, much to Joanne’s surprise, Bill said:  “I know you’ve always wanted to for us to get married and have a child.  So, let’s do it.”  After Joanne regained her equilibrium and responded “YES!”, they began to create a unique wedding ceremony and celebration to reflect their relationship, values, and wishes for a family.

The Wedding:

Together they created the entire wedding ceremony, including writing their own vows and comments to guests.  Officiated by a clergyman friend, the ceremony took place in their rustic back yard amidst flowering tall wild Eastern Shore grasses with family and friends present.

Champagne toast at Bill and Joanne's wedding

Following a champagne toast, everyone paraded down Rock Hall Avenue to an historic Bed & Breakfast on the Chesapeake for a dinner of their favorites, Rock Fish stuffed with crabmeat and prime rib – all for about $30 per person. What a bargain!

The Final Touch!

Before leaving on their honeymoon sailing the Chesapeake Bay, Joanne and Bill shared their wedding cake, which was a replica of the J.T Leonard.

Returning from their honeymoon, many guests repeatedly commented, Your wedding was the most meaningful I have ever attended, mainly because it authentically celebrated what you really care about — your unique love, relationship, and life together.

Mindful Wedding Officiants:

Thus, the seeds were sewn for many years later when we created Mindful Wedding Officiants.  Bill revived his ministry, this time as a married Catholic priest; and Joanne became an officiant under auspices of the Universal Life Church.

Each time we work with couples to create and officiate at their wedding ceremony, we get to share their excitement and love for each other; and, in a way, relive our own special day.

Who could ask for more?
